Naidu Reaffirms Amaravati as Andhra Pradesh’s Sole Capital

Standing before a crowd at the NTR Bharosa pension event in Punnapuvaripalem, Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu dismantled the previous administration’s decentralization strategy. He characterized the YSRCP’s abandoned three-capital proposal as a deliberate act of sabotage that stifled the state’s economic potential and left local farmers in a state of limbo.

Naidu Reaffirms Amaravati as Andhra Pradesh’s Sole Capital

Naidu pointed to a stark reversal in policy by his predecessor, YS Jagan Mohan Reddy. While Reddy initially backed Amaravati as the capital prior to the 2019 elections—securing land contributions from local farmers in the process—he later pivoted to a three-capital model. According to the Chief Minister, this abrupt shift derailed infrastructure momentum and eroded investor confidence in the region.

The current administration now faces the task of restoring the capital’s status amid what Naidu describes as ongoing efforts to discredit the project. The Chief Minister cited specific instances of arson as evidence of a coordinated campaign to undermine the development. Without firm legal protections for the capital site, Naidu argues the state remains vulnerable to policy instability, stressing that the restoration of Amaravati is essential to securing the future reputation and financial health of Andhra Pradesh.
