Audi Mexico Avoids Strike With 4.6% Wage Hike

A potential work stoppage at the Audi Mexico assembly plant in Puebla has been averted after union members ratified a new contract. The deal secures a 4.6% direct salary increase for the facility's 4,000 unionized employees, effectively neutralizing the threat of a strike that had been looming for weeks.

The agreement, finalized between the Volkswagen subsidiary and labor representatives, provides a total compensation boost of 19.5% when accounting for expanded benefits. While union negotiators initially pushed for a 15% wage hike alongside a 5% increase in benefits, the final settlement reflects a compromise that mandates annual reviews to address future economic shifts.

The resolution follows a period of tense negotiations that saw the original strike deadline pushed back from June 16 to June 26. By securing this deal, Audi maintains operations at its critical Mexican hub, ensuring production continuity for its global supply chain. Both parties have signaled that the structured framework of the contract provides the necessary stability for the plant’s workforce moving forward.
