Satheesan Rejects Blanket Confrontation with New Delhi

Keralam Chief Minister VD Satheesan has drawn a line between constructive governance and political combat, asserting that the state will challenge specific central policies rather than maintain a blanket stance of opposition. Addressing the Assembly, he framed this strategy as a necessary exercise in cooperative federalism during a period of fiscal pressure.

The government’s pushback remains focused on targeted grievances, including the controversial V B Ram G scheme, which Satheesan identified as a primary point of contention. He argued that while protecting the state’s interests is non-negotiable, constant friction with the Centre serves no practical purpose for the administration or its constituents.

Beyond federal relations, the Chief Minister shifted focus to the state’s long-term demographic challenges. With a rapidly aging population and a shrinking youth base, Satheesan emphasized that Keralam’s fiscal health depends on strategic investment in education and employment rather than raising taxes. He promised that the state would prioritize rigorous financial management to bridge budgetary gaps, signaling a shift toward internal efficiency to mitigate the impact of external economic constraints.
