The investment targets a comprehensive modernisation of the utility’s assets, spanning the provinces of Livorno, Pisa, and Siena. Construction plans include new wells, upgraded pumping stations, and modernized electrical systems designed to stabilize supply for local households and businesses. Beyond physical repairs, the project emphasizes network efficiency through pressure management, pipeline rehabilitation, and district metering to curb water loss.
Technological integration serves as a pillar of the overhaul, with the introduction of SCADA monitoring, GIS, and hydraulic modelling tools to digitize operational management. Wastewater treatment facilities will also see significant process improvements to align with stringent European environmental regulations.
Milena Messori, head of the EIB office in Italy, stated the financing aims to create a more resilient and digitally advanced water framework. This initiative aligns with a broader EIB trend, which saw the bank inject €837 million into Italian water utilities throughout 2025 to bolster national resource sustainability.
