Judge Quashes Subpoenas Against Minnesota Officials in DOJ Probe

A federal judge has blocked the Trump administration’s attempt to compel testimony from Minnesota officials, including the state’s Democratic governor. The ruling invalidates subpoenas issued during a Justice Department investigation aimed at determining whether local resistance to federal immigration enforcement efforts amounted to criminal activity.

U.S. District Judge Patrick Schiltz issued the order on Monday, delivering a significant setback to a probe launched in January at the height of the administration's crackdown in Minneapolis. The investigation sought to determine if Democratic leaders had obstructed federal agents tasked with locating and detaining migrants accused of residing in the country illegally.

Prosecutors had targeted state and local offices, demanding records to prove that public opposition to the deployment of thousands of federal enforcement agents constituted a violation of federal law. By quashing these subpoenas, the court has effectively stalled the government’s efforts to criminalize the political resistance mounted by Minnesota officials during the height of the regional immigration conflict.
