The project, supported by the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa, the World Bank, and the National Institute of Statistics, seeks to integrate energy data into a cohesive framework. By adopting the United Nations' System of Environmental-Economic Accounting, the country intends to map the movement of energy from extraction to final use. This process is designed to provide policymakers with precise metrics on energy efficiency, sectoral consumption, and the resulting impacts on greenhouse gas emissions and economic growth.
This initiative aligns with the Cameroon Vision 2035 and the National Development Strategy 2020–2030, both of which prioritize industrial expansion and sustainable energy transitions. Specialists from the United Kingdom Office for National Statistics are providing technical guidance to ensure the resulting data meets international standards. The Douala workshop will culminate in a formal roadmap, identifying existing information shortfalls and defining the institutional arrangements necessary to support the country's long-term energy security and climate goals.
