The friction began after Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge scolded party workers during the 'Sankalpa Samavesha' event for chanting slogans centered on Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar. Priyank Kharge defended the move, asserting that the AICC president holds the seniority required to enforce discipline regardless of the individual’s rank. He noted that party members have not taken offense to the rebuke, questioning why the BJP remains preoccupied with the internal dynamics of the Congress leadership.
Beyond party discipline, the minister pushed back against accusations from BJP MP Tejasvi Surya regarding student delays during the NEET re-examination. While acknowledging the frustration of students affected by Bengaluru’s mobility challenges, Kharge rejected claims of governmental negligence, citing the issuance of official traffic advisories. He pivoted the conversation back to the opposition, demanding that the BJP focus on broader national issues, specifically calling for the resignation of the NTA chairperson and Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan over recent examination leaks.
