Moscow drone barrage forces airport closures as Crimea faces fuel crisis

Nearly 60 drones targeted Moscow in the early hours of Monday, forcing a temporary suspension of all flights across the capital's four major airports. Mayor Sergei Sobyanin confirmed the interception of the aerial fleet, marking another significant escalation following a massive strike on the city's oil refinery last week.

Emergency crews were dispatched to multiple crash sites throughout the capital region after defense systems intercepted the incoming wave. While aviation authorities at Sheremetyevo, Domodedovo, Vnukovo, and Zhukovskiy briefly grounded all incoming and outgoing traffic, operations resumed later in the morning. This assault follows a record-breaking offensive days prior, when nearly 200 drones targeted the city, including its sole oil refinery.

Simultaneously, the situation in Sevastopol remains strained as Governor Mikhail Razvozhayev ordered the cancellation of all outdoor public events. Authorities have implemented strict energy-saving measures, including switching off street lights, as targeted strikes on supply routes and energy infrastructure trigger a localized fuel crisis in the annexed territory. Public fuel sales remain suspended, with remaining reserves strictly prioritized for essential government and security services.
