Shivakumar Rallies Congress Workers Against Electoral Roll Revision

Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar has sounded an alarm over the Centre’s Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls, warning that the process threatens to disenfranchise opposition supporters. He instructed party workers to transform into help desks to prevent the systemic removal of eligible voters from the registration lists.

Addressing the Sankalpa Samavesha, Shivakumar claimed that the exercise mirrors voter purges seen in Tamil Nadu and West Bengal, where millions were reportedly struck from the rolls. He urged Booth Level Agents to monitor the enumeration process closely, specifically targeting migrant workers who are often excluded during such revisions. The Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee has launched the 'Congress Nade Matadarara Kadege' campaign to counter these concerns, scheduling review meetings in major cities including Bengaluru, Mangaluru, and Mysuru through the end of June.

Beyond electoral logistics, Shivakumar addressed internal party dynamics, asserting his adherence to the state’s power-sharing agreement. He emphasized his patience during the transition period with Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, dismissing rumors of friction. The party maintains that the BJP-led central government is exerting undue influence over the Election Commission, prompting the formation of an internal SIR Voter List Review Committee to safeguard democratic participation across the state.
