Mohun Bagan Athletic Club played a central role in the festivities, with club leadership emphasizing a new institutional commitment to the practice. Executive committee member Sohini Mitra Choubey noted that the celebration represents a growing focus on health initiatives within West Bengal. Club President Debasish Dutta credited the public call from Prime Minister Narendra Modi and state leader Suvendu Adhikari for the surge in collective participation, urging members to integrate the discipline into their daily routines.
The national observance centered on Kolkata, with Prime Minister Modi leading a mass yoga session at Red Road. Since the United Nations General Assembly established the day in 2014, the event has expanded its global reach. This year’s focus on healthy ageing aims to promote physical independence and long-term vitality, reflecting the Prime Minister's assertion that the practice serves as a unifying force across diverse communities.
