Uddhav Thackeray links struggle for Shivaji statue to party identity

Even securing permission to honor Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj in his own home state has become a battle, Uddhav Thackeray remarked Saturday. Speaking at the inauguration of a new statue near Mumbai’s Sahar Police Station, the Shiv Sena (UBT) leader framed the bureaucratic hurdles as evidence of a broader, ongoing fight for Marathi pride.

The installation at the Airport Services Limited Entrance, Gate No. 5, required persistent advocacy from the local Lok Adhikar Samiti, according to Thackeray. He described the process as an unfortunate reflection of the current political climate, where honoring the Maratha king is met with resistance rather than support. Addressing his supporters, he characterized this specific achievement as a microcosm of the party’s historical mission to advocate for the rights of the common person.

Thackeray used the event to rally his base, promising that those he labeled as "traitors" would soon be swept aside by a wave of public sentiment. He urged party workers to remain vigilant against injustice, reiterating that the organization was founded to serve as a voice for the people. By linking the statue’s completion to the party’s core values, he positioned the physical monument as a symbol of defiance against the difficulties faced by his faction in contemporary Maharashtra politics.
