The internal inquiry follows a disappointing result for the NDA, where the Congress party secured five of the seven contested seats. Despite holding 64 seats in the Assembly, the BJP saw its candidates fall short by eight votes, while the JD(S) candidate failed to reach the required tally. State leadership now faces intense scrutiny, with Vijayendra, R Ashoka, and Radhamohan Das Agarwal expected to explain the shortfall to high-ranking officials on June 23.
Opposition leaders have traded accusations over the outcome, with BJP’s Chalavadi Narayanaswamy questioning the moral framing of the results. He challenged the Congress narrative, noting that while the opposition claims a victory for democracy, they ignore the 11 votes gained through questionable means. Conversely, Karnataka Minister Ramalinga Reddy attributed the cross-voting to a fundamental lack of leadership within the BJP and JD(S), suggesting the defection signals deep-seated dissatisfaction among opposition legislators.
