Athawale Rejects Claims of NDA Hostility Toward Regional Parties

Union Minister Ramdas Athawale has dismissed accusations that the National Democratic Alliance is systematically dismantling smaller regional parties. Speaking in Delhi, he cited his own experience leading the Republican Party of India (A) as proof that coalition membership fosters rather than hinders the growth of smaller political organizations.

Athawale pointed to the expansion of his party across 28 states and 8 union territories as evidence that the alliance remains inclusive. He characterized claims of suppression as lacking substance, noting that his organization has gained recognition in regions like Nagaland and Manipur specifically through its partnership with the NDA.

Beyond defending the coalition’s structure, the Minister criticized the political climate in West Bengal under Mamata Banerjee. He alleged that the Chief Minister has overseen the criminalization of state politics, contributing to recent defections among her party’s ranks. Athawale also addressed recent remarks by Shiv Sena (UBT) MP Sanjay Raut, condemning the use of abusive language regarding defecting MPs. He suggested that while political frustration is understandable, such rhetoric deviates from Maharashtra’s political traditions.
