Shiv Sena UBT faces internal strain as six MPs skip key meeting

Six Shiv Sena (UBT) members of parliament skipped a high-stakes meeting in New Delhi on Thursday, fueling intense speculation of a party fracture. While the leadership has initiated disqualification proceedings against the absentees, senior figures remain divided over how to manage the fallout of this public display of internal dissent.

Only three of the party’s nine Lok Sabha representatives—Arvind Sawant, Anil Desai, and Rajabhau Waje—attended the session convened by party whips. In response, Sanjay Raut announced the issuance of show-cause notices, signaling a formal push for disqualification. Raut expressed confidence that the Lok Sabha Speaker would adhere to Supreme Court directives to remove the rebels, though his aggressive rhetoric drew sharp criticism from within his own ranks.

Manisha Kayande, a fellow leader, publicly questioned the tone of the party’s response, arguing that attacking colleagues with unparliamentary language undermines the institution. She insisted that it remains premature to conclude a full-scale split until the six absent MPs—Nagesh Aashtikar, Sanjay Deshmukh, Sanjay Jadhav, Sanjay Dina Patil, Omprakash Rajenimbalkar, and Bhausaheb Wakchaure—provide their own account of the situation. Meanwhile, the Eknath Shinde-led Shiv Sena faction has moved to dampen rumors of an immediate mass defection, stating that no new inductions are planned for the party's foundation day event at NESCO.
