Cai Qi Takes Command of China’s Elite Party School

Cai Qi, a member of the Politburo Standing Committee, has officially assumed the presidency of the National Academy of Governance. The appointment, confirmed Thursday by the human resources ministry, places one of China’s most powerful figures in direct control of the institution responsible for molding the next generation of party ideology.

The academy functions in tandem with the Central Party School, serving as the primary training ground for senior government officials. This transition follows recent state media reports that observed Cai presiding over a spring semester graduation ceremony, signaling that his influence over the party’s administrative apparatus was already effectively underway before the formal announcement.

Cai replaces Chen Xi, who previously held the post. By consolidating leadership of the academy under a Standing Committee member, the party reinforces its focus on ideological discipline within the ranks of its senior bureaucracy.
