The agreement, signed digitally by Donald Trump and President Masoud Pezeshkian, extends a truce originally established in April by an additional 60 days. This pause in hostilities, which covers conflict zones including Lebanon, provides a window for diplomatic teams to negotiate a permanent resolution. The Iranian foreign ministry confirmed the terms became binding on Wednesday evening.
Grossi described the memorandum as a necessary step toward de-escalation, noting that agency officials will now coordinate directly with their American and Iranian counterparts to define specific oversight measures. The conflict, which began on February 28, has resulted in over 7,000 deaths, primarily within Iran and Lebanon. Beyond the immediate human toll, the hostilities have destabilized global energy markets, intensified inflationary pressures, and sparked warnings regarding food security in developing nations.
