Russian Missiles Strike Kyiv During Zelenskiy Diplomatic Push

Explosions rocked Kyiv early Thursday as Russian ballistic missiles targeted the capital, forcing residents into shelters. The bombardment unfolded shortly after President Volodymyr Zelenskiy held high-level talks with Donald Trump and European leaders, attempting to forge a coordinated path toward ending the protracted conflict.

Russian Missiles Strike Kyiv During Zelenskiy Diplomatic Push

The assault on Kyiv marks the second major strike this week, following an earlier attack that damaged a historic monastery and claimed ten lives. Tymur Tkachenko, head of the city's military administration, warned residents to remain in secure locations as air raid alerts blanketed the country. While Kyiv faced missile fire, the conflict intensified on multiple fronts: a drone strike in Sumy killed one person, and similar casualties were reported in the Russian-occupied city of Enerhodar and the border region of Belgorod.

Energy infrastructure remained a primary target as drone warfare escalated deep within Russia. In Moscow, authorities reported that falling debris caused minor damage to a shopping center, though smoke plumes were visible near a major oil refinery in the Kapotnya district. Sources indicate that a separate strike on Tuesday disrupted operations at that refinery, compounding Russia's domestic fuel shortages. As both nations trade accusations over civilian casualties, Russia continues to struggle with the impact of these strikes on its energy sector, even as it maintains its stance that the war is proceeding in its favor.
