Acting Bryansk governor Yegor Kovalchuk released images of the damaged vehicle, which carried 44 passengers, including 28 young soccer players heading toward Gelendzhik. The Russian Foreign Ministry branded the strike a monstrous crime, prompting federal investigators to open a formal terrorism inquiry into the attack. The bus reportedly sustained blown-out windows and significant tire damage, with visible bloodstains inside the cabin.
Ukraine’s General Staff dismissed the accusations through a Telegram statement, asserting that their forces did not operate any unmanned aerial vehicles in the Bryansk Oblast during the timeframe specified by Moscow. While Russia has frequently targeted Ukrainian urban centers since February 2022, Kyiv has recently intensified its own drone program aimed at weakening the Russian economy. Both nations maintain a policy of denying intentional strikes against civilian targets despite the mounting toll of the ongoing conflict.
