A corruption complaint lodged against senior Congress leader HC Mahadevappa has sparked fresh political friction in Karnataka, as the former minister dismissed the allegations as a transparent attempt to derail his chances during the government’s ongoing cabinet expansion discussions.

Mahadevappa, who served as the Social Welfare Minister, labeled the claims "baseless" and suggested the timing of the complaint is intended to sabotage his political standing. He argued that the maneuver is so blatant that it lacks any genuine foundation, describing it as a product of malicious propaganda rather than credible evidence. During his four decades in public life, Mahadevappa stated that he has remained committed to the constitutional principles of Dr. BR Ambedkar, maintaining that enduring criticism is simply a facet of service.

Defending his administrative record, the veteran leader pointed to his tenure as Public Works Minister, during which he oversaw the development of 30,000 kilometers of road networks, bridges, and major infrastructure projects. He insisted that his work was driven by a commitment to public welfare and legislative reform for Scheduled Castes rather than financial gain. While the specific details of the complaint submitted to the Governor remain undisclosed, Mahadevappa maintained that he has never operated outside the bounds of the law. The Governor's office has yet to comment on the matter, leaving the political future of the cabinet expansion in a state of uncertainty.
