Jackson’s victory, achieved by a five-point margin, stands as the most prominent defeat for Trump in this election cycle. The result follows a similar loss in Iowa earlier this month, where his preferred candidate failed to secure the nomination. Despite the gubernatorial upset, Trump found success in the Georgia U.S. Senate primary, where Representative Mike Collins cruised to a double-digit victory over former coach Derek Dooley. Collins, branded "MAGA Mike" by the former president, now faces a formidable challenge against Democratic Senator Jon Ossoff. While the Republican Senate Leadership Fund has pledged $44 million to flip the seat, Ossoff enters the general election with a massive financial advantage, holding $33 million in campaign funds compared to Collins’ $1.2 million.
In Washington, D.C., democratic socialist Janeese Lewis George holds a commanding lead in the mayoral primary, though the city's new ranked-choice voting system has delayed an official projection. Should she prevail, Lewis George would become the second democratic socialist to lead a major American city. Meanwhile, in Oklahoma, voters rejected a ballot measure intended to raise the state’s minimum wage to $15 by 2029. Despite opposition from Governor Kevin Stitt, the measure drew rare support from within the GOP, including Labor Commissioner Leslie Osborn, who argued that current stagnant wages force working families to rely on government assistance.
