Sanjay Raut issued a stern ultimatum to any lawmakers allegedly considering a defection, demanding they resign their seats and face voters before jumping ship. He claimed that internal intelligence suggests an attempt to engineer a split, citing reports that 15 crore rupees were offered to individual MPs to secure their departure. According to Raut, these lawmakers reportedly used charter flights from hubs like Nanded and Pune to facilitate their movements.
The party has responded by issuing a formal whip for an upcoming parliamentary meeting. While Raut adopted a combative stance, Anil Desai later attempted to soften the rhetoric, characterizing his colleague’s fiery remarks as emotionally charged rather than directed at specific individuals. The atmosphere in Maharashtra remains tense as speculation mounts over so-called Operation Tiger, a purported effort by the Eknath Shinde-led Shiv Sena to absorb seven of the nine UBT MPs. This latest friction follows the 2022 fracture that originally split the party, placing the remaining UBT parliamentary contingent under intense scrutiny.
