Owaisi recently acknowledged the failures of his party’s 2017 campaign, framing those setbacks as lessons that now inform a more disciplined grassroots approach. Under the direction of state leader Shaukat Ali, the AIMIM is currently overhauling its campaign machinery to improve its electoral performance. The party president insists that his willingness to join a broader coalition serves to prevent the fragmentation of secular votes, directly challenging critics who accuse him of acting as a tool for the BJP.
Despite these overtures, the path toward a unified front remains fraught with tension. Internal instability, highlighted by recent defections during the Rajya Sabha elections, continues to complicate the AIMIM's standing. Meanwhile, Congress leader Imran Masood has publicly rejected the prospect of an alliance, citing a fundamental need for a unified stance against communalism. Masood’s dismissal underscores the deepening divide within the opposition, as mainstream parties prioritize their own strategic autonomy over the inclusion of Owaisi’s faction.
