Azad asserted that the faction led by Mamata Banerjee remains the only legitimate face of the Trinamool Congress. He characterized the recent defection to the Nationalist Citizens Party of India as an undemocratic maneuver, casting doubt on the legal status of the recipient organization. According to the MP, the new party is an unregistered entity lacking both parliamentary standing and any meaningful political influence.
By abandoning their original ranks, the rebels have exposed deep internal fractures, Azad argued. He maintained that the decision to join an unrecognized group highlights a lack of political integrity among the defectors, who prioritized personal ambition over party loyalty. The TMC continues to frame the exit as an opportunistic alignment that holds no weight in the broader parliamentary landscape.
