The incident occurred near the Angara river, with social media footage capturing the aircraft entering a nosedive before disappearing into the forest. Governor Igor Kobzev confirmed that emergency responders arrived on the scene to contain a blaze triggered by the crash. According to the Russian Defence Ministry, the aircraft was not carrying a combat payload, preventing further destruction on the ground.
Preliminary assessments point to engine failure as the primary cause of the crash. The Tu-22M3, a long-range bomber designated as the "Backfire" by NATO, remains a core element of Russia’s aerial fleet, capable of deploying hypersonic Kinzhal missiles. Investigators are currently working to secure the site and recover technical data to confirm the mechanical breakdown.
