Tension Mounts as Police File Case Against Mamata Banerjee

A formal police complaint against West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has ignited a fresh political firestorm, with BJP leaders defending the action as a necessary response to inflammatory rhetoric. Filed at Kolkata’s Hare Street station, the FIR alleges that the Trinamool Congress chairperson’s recent speeches threatened public peace.

Union Minister of State Sukanta Majumdar, speaking in Malda, dismissed accusations of a political vendetta, insisting the legal proceedings are a direct consequence of Banerjee’s provocative language. The complaint, lodged by Tushar Kanti Das, invokes multiple sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, signaling a hardening stance from authorities against the state’s ruling party leadership.

BJP MLA Indranil Khan echoed this sentiment, suggesting that legal intervention regarding Banerjee’s rhetoric should have occurred long ago to protect national interests. The development arrives at a precarious moment for the Trinamool Congress, which is already struggling with internal fractures following recent electoral setbacks. As the CID continues a separate inquiry involving party leader Abhishek Banerjee, the legal pressure on the TMC hierarchy appears to be intensifying.
