BJP spokesperson Pratul Shah Deo confirmed the party fell four votes short of the 28-seat threshold required to guarantee a victory for an internal candidate, even when accounting for alliance partners. By backing Nathwani, the BJP is betting on a candidate with a history of cross-party support, noting that his previous tenures in the upper house received backing from both Congress and the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha.
With two seats up for grabs, the June 18 contest has tightened into a three-way race. The ruling coalition of JMM and Congress has countered the BJP’s move by fielding Baidyanath Ram and Pranav Jha. Nathwani, who relies on his established track record to court voters, now finds himself at the center of a pivotal political maneuvering that highlights the shifting alliances within the state's legislature.
