TMC Insurgency Threatens West Bengal Power Balance

A fracture within the Trinamool Congress reached a tipping point Monday as 20 Members of Parliament signaled their intent to defect to the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance. The shift, confirmed by rebel MP Kakoli Ghosh Dastidar, threatens to dismantle the party's influence following its recent legislative collapse in West Bengal.

The dissidents have formalized their stance by submitting a letter to Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla, effectively aligning themselves with the NDA. This exodus coincides with the installation of Suvendu Adhikari as West Bengal's first BJP Chief Minister, a historic reversal for the state's political order. While Mamata Banerjee remains engaged in opposition strategy meetings in New Delhi, the internal revolt is playing out in private, with defectors gathering at the residence of Union Minister Bhupender Yadav.

Former Rajya Sabha member Sukhendu Shekhar Ray led the charge by resigning his position earlier that morning, signaling a wider organized push. The group is now navigating the legal complexities of the Tenth Schedule of the Constitution, aiming to secure their seats against potential disqualification as they finalize their transition to the ruling coalition.
