Southern Lebanon Faces Continued Bombardment Despite Truce

Nearly 3,500 air strikes and hundreds of controlled demolitions have torn through southern Lebanon since the April 17 U.S.-brokered ceasefire began. While the truce successfully halted attacks on Beirut, the border region remains a volatile combat zone, leaving villages in ruins as military engagements persist unabated.

Southern Lebanon Faces Continued Bombardment Despite Truce

Lebanese Defense Minister Michel Menassa reports that the intensity of Israeli operations has not subsided in the south, despite the diplomatic efforts intended to secure a reprieve. The ongoing clashes between Israeli forces and Hezbollah militants have rendered the ceasefire largely ineffective in the most contested areas.

Prime Minister Nawaf Salam highlighted the broader humanitarian crisis, noting that the regional conflict between Iran and Israel has forced over a million people from their homes since March 2. Hezbollah continues to launch rocket barrages in support of Iranian interests, drawing immediate retaliatory strikes from Israel. With the Israeli military offering no comment on the reported scale of the damage, the path toward a sustainable peace appears increasingly fragile.
