CPI(M) questions Congress alliance strategy ahead of INDIA bloc meeting

Conflict defines the uneasy alliance between the CPI(M) and Congress as Rajya Sabha MP John Brittas publicly challenged the conduct of Rahul Gandhi and Mallikarjun Kharge. The friction stems from persistent allegations by top Congress leadership that the Left party maintained a secret political understanding with the BJP during the Kerala elections.

Brittas, the designated representative for Monday’s INDIA bloc gathering in New Delhi, openly questioned the logic of the coalition. He argued that the Congress leadership’s claims of a CPI(M)-BJP nexus undermine the very purpose of the opposition front. The MP noted that while the Left continues to support Congress leaders in Parliament, the party refuses to seek validation regarding its commitment to opposing the BJP.

The tension escalated following a letter from CPI(M) general secretary M A Baby to Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge. Baby demanded an explanation for what he termed a systematic campaign led by high-ranking Congress figures, including Priyanka Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi. These officials repeatedly suggested that Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan had reached a deal with Prime Minister Narendra Modi. With the INDIA bloc leaders set to convene today, the internal accusations threaten to overshadow the coalition's unified stance against the ruling government.
