Hezbollah remains defiant, conditioning any potential peace talks on a total Israeli withdrawal from southern Lebanon and an immediate cessation of military operations. This position mirrors the demands of its primary backer, Iran, which recently signaled that any agreement with the United States hinges on these specific military concessions. The conflict, which ignited on March 2 following the assassination of Iran’s Supreme Leader, has devastated the region, claiming thousands of lives and displacing more than a million residents.
Despite a U.S.-brokered ceasefire attempt in November 2024, the cycle of violence persists. Israel continues to conduct targeted strikes against Hezbollah-linked assets, maintaining that its security requirements remain unmet. With both sides entrenched in contradictory prerequisites for de-escalation, the prospect of a lasting diplomatic resolution appears increasingly remote.
