Toledo Deputy Police Chief Joe Heffernan confirmed that two of the victims remain in critical condition following the violence. The incident occurred during the annual Old West End Festival, a popular local gathering featuring live music and historic home tours. While officers were already stationed on-site for the event, the rapid outbreak of gunfire forced immediate emergency responses as attendees scrambled for cover in the arboretum.

Witness Kevin Berry, who was nearby when the shots rang out, recounted seeing a firearm discarded less than 50 feet from his position. Utilizing his medical training, Berry assisted several victims scattered across the grounds. Ohio Governor Mike DeWine condemned the attack, emphasizing that summer festivals should serve as safe spaces for families. Police continue to process the scene and search for the individuals responsible for the chaos.
