Thomas Schöb Tapped to Lead Aargauische Kantonalbank

After three decades of service, Dieter Widmer is stepping down as CEO of Aargauische Kantonalbank, clearing the path for Baloise Bank veteran Thomas Schöb to take the reins. The leadership transition is scheduled for June 1, 2027, marking a significant shift for the long-standing cantonal financial institution.

Widmer’s departure comes at his own request, concluding a tenure that spanned 30 years at the bank, the last nine of which he spent presiding over the Executive Board. During his time at the helm, he focused on reinforcing the bank’s stability and market presence, a contribution highlighted by Board Chairman Kurt Bobst as instrumental to the firm's strategic evolution.

His successor, Thomas Schöb, brings a background in physics from ETH Zurich and deep roots in the Aargau region, where he currently chairs the Staufen municipal financial committee. Schöb will transition from his current role as CEO of Baloise Bank—a position he has held since early 2025—following a long career with Baloise Insurance that began in 2002. Beyond his executive duties, Schöb has served on the board of the Association of Swiss Regional Banks and managed audit and risk committees, experience that Bobst cited as proof of his ability to navigate complex organizational development.
