Zurich Boutique Arvy Recruits UBS Veteran for Macro Expansion

After two decades navigating investment banking, former UBS technical lead Michael Riesner is bringing his macroeconomic expertise to Zurich-based boutique Arvy. Through a new partnership with Riesner’s firm, Global Macro Cycle Partners, the investment platform intends to bridge the gap between individual stock analysis and broad market cycles.

The collaboration centers on a weekly publication, "arvy Macro Cycles," which will dissect equity markets, commodities, and interest rate trends. By integrating Riesner’s technical insights—honed during his 15-year tenure at UBS Investment Bank—the firm aims to provide deeper context for central bank policy and geopolitical shifts. These analyses will reach investors directly through Substack and X.

Riesner’s arrival adds significant institutional weight to the boutique. A nine-time winner of the Extel Pan-European Survey for technical analysis, he has spent the last six years advising sovereign wealth funds and pension managers through his firm, GMCP. His background includes serving on the investment committees for the pension funds of both UBS and Credit Suisse.

Simultaneously, the firm has reshuffled its leadership, appointing Marco Studer to the board of directors. Studer, the current CEO of Swiss Reserve, brings over 15 years of private banking experience from tenures at BNP Paribas, Credit Suisse, and UBS. He joins a team led by chief investment officer Thierry Borgeat, which manages a research platform tracking more than 2,000 stocks and 600 ETFs.
