The ballot features 27 candidates, though the contest centers on acting President Iliana Iotova and former caretaker Prime Minister Andrey Gyurov. Iotova, currently polling at 41%, advocates for a diplomatic resolution to the regional conflict. Her challenger, Gyurov, commands 28% support and maintains a platform firmly aligned with pro-Western interests and continued aid to Ukraine.
Prime Minister Rumen Radev has stopped short of directly attributing the drone strikes to Moscow, yet he noted the strategic advantage the instability provides to Russia. With polls open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m., the electorate faces a sharp choice between divergent visions of national security. Should no candidate capture an outright majority, the decision will move to a runoff election scheduled for November 1.
