The pause in hostilities is scheduled to commence at 3:00 am Tuesday Kyiv time, covering the Kherson region and surrounding areas critical to the operation. According to Dmytro Lubinets, Ukraine's human rights ombudsman, the process will unfold in three distinct stages: a formal ceasefire, the clearing of mined access routes, and the subsequent transport of food, medicine, and hygiene supplies. Russian human rights ombudswoman Yana Lantratova confirmed that safe passage will be guaranteed for any resident wishing to leave the combat zone.
Oleshky has remained under Russian control since February 2022, suffering severe infrastructure damage and the catastrophic effects of the Kakhovka Dam collapse. The initiative grew out of talks initiated during the UN General Assembly in September, marking a rare diplomatic breakthrough amid escalating tensions between the Trump administration and the Ukrainian government.
