California Man Arrested for Murder After Falsely Blaming ICE for Wife's Disappearance

A 28-year-old Sacramento man, Gurinder Gill, is in custody without bail following the discovery of his wife’s burned remains. Gill initially attempted to deflect suspicion by telling detectives that immigration agents had abducted his 30-year-old wife, Jasmine Gill, while she was collecting mail outside their home.

The Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office dismantled the husband’s narrative after contacting Immigration and Customs Enforcement, which confirmed no enforcement operations had occurred at the couple's residence. Investigators soon uncovered significant inconsistencies in Gill's account, noting that the couple was embroiled in a contentious divorce and child custody battle at the time of Jasmine’s disappearance.

The investigation took a grim turn on October 1, when authorities discovered burned human remains in El Dorado County. Forensic confirmation later identified the victim as Jasmine Gill, a nurse and mother to an eight-month-old infant. Following this discovery, detectives secured an arrest warrant, taking Gurinder Gill into custody on October 14. He is currently held at the Sacramento County Main Jail. ICE officials publicly condemned the attempt to use the agency as a scapegoat, labeling the act a deranged effort to deflect from a violent crime. Meanwhile, Jasmine’s family has launched a fundraising campaign to repatriate her body to India, where her mother, Sukhwinder Kaur, continues to seek justice for her daughter's death.
