The ultimatum follows reports that Democrats are preparing to launch inquiries into Musk’s role within the administration should they secure control of the House of Representatives in the upcoming November 3 elections. As a major government contractor through SpaceX and a significant donor to the Republican Party, Musk has become a central figure in Washington’s political friction. His recent initiatives, including a campaign to reduce federal spending and cut nearly 300,000 government positions, have heightened tensions with opposition lawmakers.
Representative Zoe Lofgren described the situation as containing an astounding number of conflicts of interest. Should Democrats take the House, they would gain the authority to issue subpoenas and compel testimony, potentially placing the tech mogul at the center of high-stakes oversight hearings. Musk’s rhetoric suggests he intends to aggressively counter any legislative attempts to scrutinize his business dealings or his advisory relationship with the White House.
