Parliamentary Panel to Address Child Safety and Northeast Projects

The Department-related Parliamentary Standing Committee on Home Affairs convenes September 23 at Parliament House to examine rising crimes against children and the rollout of federal development programs in the Northeast. Chaired by BJP Rajya Sabha MP Radha Mohan Das Agarwal, the committee features a diverse roster of 31 lawmakers, including Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, AAP’s Sanjay Singh, and TMC’s Derek O'Brien. The agenda, already distributed to members, reflects a dual focus on social protection and regional infrastructure. During the 11 am session, legislators will press the Ministry of Law and Justice for progress reports on child-related offenses. Following this, the 2 pm session shifts to the Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region, where officials must account for the current status of Centrally Sponsored Schemes. This committee remains one of eight under the administrative oversight of the Rajya Sabha Chairman, distinguishing it from the 16 panels reporting to the Lok Sabha Speaker.
