Sangrur man attempts suicide after reporting local drug trade

The victim remains in serious condition at Rajindra Hospital in Patiala. According to his testimony, the ordeal began when he posted footage of individuals selling 'chitta' in his village. Despite deleting the video, he alleges that Sarpanch Sukhbir Singh and his associates escalated their intimidation, eventually raiding his home, destroying CCTV equipment, and physically assaulting him. Singh’s friend, Manjinder Singh, confirmed that the victim had sought police intervention prior to the incident but felt ignored by local authorities.

Sangrur SSP Ravjot Kaur Grewal stated that investigators are waiting for medical clearance to record Singh’s formal statement. Police records indicate a previous report was filed regarding threats of self-harm, adding a layer of complexity to the ongoing inquiry. Meanwhile, Sarpanch Sukhbir Singh has denied immediate knowledge of the event.
