ProPublica recently revealed that Kremlev, who leads the International Boxing Association, covered costs for a private island rental and a fireworks display during the May nuptials of Donald Trump Jr. and Bettina Anderson in the Bahamas. While the couple initially stated they married in a private ceremony surrounded only by family, the subsequent three-day celebration received substantial backing from the Kremlin-aligned figure.
Speaking from the Oval Office, the president insisted the financial gift was permissible, though he claimed he had previously questioned his son about the matter. He recalled an earlier conversation where his son assured him the funds would be returned. Kremlev’s involvement arrives during a period of heightened scrutiny, as the Russian official remains an Order of Friendship recipient who frequently accompanies Putin on diplomatic missions. Trump, who did not attend the event, suggested that such gifts are ordinary social gestures and stated he has similarly hosted celebrations for others without vetting the participants.
