The agreement, formalized during the eighth Korea-Africa Economic Cooperation Ministerial Conference in Seoul, establishes a collaborative platform for governments, research centers, and financial institutions. By leveraging Korea's technical infrastructure, the hub will focus on financing AI-integrated projects and fostering innovation frameworks. Bank Group President Dr. Sidi Ould Tah and Korean Deputy Prime Minister Koo Yun-cheol emphasized that the initiative represents a strategic shift toward integrating artificial intelligence into core developmental projects.
Scaling Economic Impact Through Technology
Projections from the African Development Bank suggest that effective AI adoption could contribute up to $1 trillion to Africa’s GDP by 2035. Achieving this requires synchronized investment in computing capacity, data governance, and specialized workforce training. The new hub serves as a central clearinghouse for these resources, building upon the existing KOAFEC Trust Fund, which has already facilitated over $6 billion in investment operations since its inception. By connecting Korean innovation with Africa’s demographic potential, the partnership aims to transform academic and research-based AI concepts into practical infrastructure, ensuring that the continent's digital evolution remains competitive and inclusive.
