This transaction serves as a test case for the European Investment Fund’s evolving strategy. By moving from a traditional fund-of-funds model to direct co-investment, the initiative aims to bridge the financing gap that often forces successful European startups to look toward foreign capital. EIB Vice-President Gelsomina Vigliotti and EIF Chief Executive Marjut Falkstedt highlighted the round as proof of a maturing ecosystem, noting that the firm has received support from European managers since its earliest seed stages. With the launch of ETCI 2.0, which targets mobilizing up to €80 billion for scale-ups, the Exein deal provides a blueprint for how public and private capital can synchronize to keep high-growth technology companies rooted within Europe.
