World Bank Invests $666 Million in Vietnam Infrastructure

Three new infrastructure projects in Vietnam have secured $666.74 million in World Bank financing to revitalize transport networks, bolster flood defenses, and modernize coastal fishing industries. These investments aim to lower business costs and safeguard livelihoods for nearly 1.7 million residents across the Mekong Delta and northern port regions.

The International Bank for Reconstruction and Development is backing initiatives that integrate economic growth with climate resilience. In Hai Phong, a $260.1 million investment will fund the construction of Ring Road 3 and expand wastewater infrastructure to shield the city center from flooding. Beyond urban development, the project targets industrial efficiency, aiming to streamline freight movement for exporters while creating over 13,000 jobs in the region.

Agricultural supply chains in the Mekong Delta will receive a $251.12 million injection to rehabilitate 251 kilometers of highway. By upgrading these routes to international safety standards, the initiative ensures year-round market access for farmers, protecting their produce from the disruptions of heavy seasonal rainfall.

Coastal communities are also slated for support through a $155.52 million sustainable fisheries project. By modernizing nine fishing ports, the program aims to reduce post-harvest losses and improve seafood quality. With at least half of the 525,000 beneficiaries being women, the funding focuses on long-term household income stability and the sustainable management of Vietnam’s natural marine resources.
