Beijing echoed this skepticism through its foreign ministry. Spokesperson Guo Jiakun characterized the warnings as "fearmongering" and "vicious competition" intended to disrupt global governance. The state-run Global Times went further, interpreting Amodei’s essay as a strategic attempt to "contain" China through a "Cold War playbook." With Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping scheduled to meet at the White House on September 24, the shared resistance from both administrations suggests that the push for international AI regulation faces a significant political stalemate.
