Sukhbir Singh Badal Attacks Punjab Energy Policy Amid Power Shortages

Shiromani Akali Dal president Sukhbir Singh Badal launched a scathing critique of Punjab’s political leadership on Monday, blaming successive Congress and Aam Aadmi Party governments for a decade of stagnation in the state’s energy infrastructure that has left farmers struggling during the critical paddy-growing season.

Badal argues that the state failed to commission a single new thermal, solar, or biomass power plant over the last ten years. This lack of growth in generation capacity has left the power grid unable to meet rising demands, directly hindering the agricultural sector's ability to maintain productivity. By highlighting the recurring supply gaps, the SAD leader intends to frame energy independence as the primary catalyst for the state’s future economic prosperity.

He is now calling for a systemic overhaul of the sector to return Punjab to its former status as a power-surplus region. According to Badal, the current infrastructure deficit serves as a significant barrier to development, and he is urging voters to back his party’s strategy to revitalize local production facilities and stabilize the grid.
