Russia Signals Openness to BRICS Mediation in Ukraine

During the recent BRICS summit in New Delhi, leaders from China and India signaled a readiness to facilitate an end to the hostilities in Ukraine. Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov confirmed Monday that Vladimir Putin received the proposal with interest, marking a potential shift in diplomatic engagement regarding the protracted conflict.

Russia continues to maintain that it is prepared to resume peace negotiations, provided that its strategic demands are met. The Kremlin remains focused on securing full control over the remaining territories in the Donetsk region. This precondition remains a primary stumbling block, as Kyiv has consistently rejected any arrangement that involves ceding sovereign land.

Peskov indicated that Moscow welcomes input from any nation capable of influencing the Ukrainian government toward greater flexibility. Despite the diplomatic overtures, the fundamental gap between the two sides regarding territorial integrity persists, leaving the prospect of a breakthrough tied to these external mediators navigating a deeply entrenched stalemate.
