Rajasthan Municipal Vote Count Stirs Political Tensions

As vote counting for the 2026 Rajasthan municipal elections unfolds under tight security, early tallies show the BJP pulling ahead. Despite the initial gap, Congress leadership remains defiant, banking on pending results from key strongholds to flip the outcome and secure their grip on the civic boards.

Rafeeq Khan, the Congress Legislature Party Chief Whip, dismissed the early trends as premature. He maintains that the party is poised to secure over 60 ward seats once the tallying shifts toward their traditional bastions. In Jodhpur, where counting commenced at 8 a.m., candidates like Ajmer’s Norat Gurjar are publicly betting on a voter mandate for change, claiming the current results do not reflect the final tally.

Election officials have implemented rigid security protocols to maintain order during the process. Authorities have enforced a total ban on mobile phones within counting centers and prohibited all victory processions. These measures aim to prevent unrest as the two major parties wait to see which will ultimately command the municipal leadership.
