Xi Jinping Proposes AI and Trade Expansion for BRICS

Chinese President Xi Jinping unveiled a strategic roadmap at the New Delhi summit on Sunday, pushing to anchor the expanded BRICS bloc through shared artificial intelligence infrastructure and unified trade protocols. The move signals Beijing’s intent to cement the group as the primary architect of Global South economic policy.

Xi urged member nations to prioritize industrial stability and the creation of an integrated market, aiming to insulate emerging economies from external volatility. Central to this agenda is the establishment of a BRICS AI Open Source Zone, a project led by China designed to facilitate technological exchange between member states.

With recent additions including Indonesia and Egypt, the bloc is increasingly positioning itself as a counterweight to Western-led global institutions. Russian President Vladimir Putin supported the call for a restructured global order, while the summit concurrently served as a platform for diplomatic mediation regarding ongoing conflicts in the Middle East.
