The Vidhana Soudha Police in Bengaluru registered a Zero FIR on August 31, acting on a complaint by T R Ramappa. The case centers on an August 10 ritual held at Haldwani’s Ramlila Ground, where BJP members allegedly performed a 'Shuddhikkaran' ceremony. The complaint asserts this act was intended to 'purify' the space following a rally held by the Congress president, implying his Scheduled Caste identity rendered the location impure.
Authorities have invoked the SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act and the Protection of Civil Rights Act in the filing. While the case will eventually move to Haldwani for investigation, Priyank Kharge framed the delay in state-level action as evidence of a systemic paralysis within the BJP. He argued that the party remains subordinate to the RSS, claiming that leadership is unable to condemn constitutional violations if they conflict with their ideological masters. The dispute has deepened into a broader partisan clash, with the BJP simultaneously facing heat over its internal dynamics and the Congress dismissing retaliatory legal filings against Rahul Gandhi as a diversionary tactic.
