Eyewitnesses reported that the chaos erupted after whispers spread that an electric wire or pole had collapsed near an entrance path. This sparked a desperate scramble as worshippers fled in opposing directions, creating a lethal bottleneck. While emergency crews reached the site quickly, the surge proved too intense for the existing crowd control infrastructure to contain.
Samrat Choudhary, Chief Minister of Bihar, called the loss of life deeply distressing in a public statement issued shortly after the incident. The tragedy highlights the recurring difficulties in managing massive religious gatherings in the region, where infrastructure frequently fails to keep pace with the influx of pilgrims. Authorities are now under pressure to audit safety protocols to prevent similar disasters during future events.
